Objective of short-term programmes
West Ham United Football Academy’s short-term programmes are designed to meet the following objectives:
- To achieve considerable improvement in a short amount of time thanks to highly-intensive programmes focused exclusively on football.
- To prepare for a tournament or competition.
- To get into shape for the next season.
- To access a long-term programme.
Long-Term Programmes:
- 10-month programme which includes accommodation and an academic plan of choice.
*To take part in a long-term programme, students must first be evaluated in a short-term programme.
What are the Long-Term Programmes for?
- To provide the necessary training to help students make the leap to professional or semi-professional football.
- To allow students to continue their academic studies while training.
- To provide guidance on physical, psychological, technical, and tactical aspects in order to improve students’ athletic performance.
- To provide the opportunity to participate in national or international competitions attended by football club scouts.
- To get football tryouts with professional or semi-professional teams for the most prominent students.
West Ham United High-Performance Academy's Professional Staff
The programme’s training staff is made up of UEFA certified coaches from the West Ham United Foundation.
It is a highly-qualified team who have extensive experience training young football players, and are dedicated to teaching the philosophy and insight of this great English club.
The coaching staff is in charge of tracking the progress of every player during the programme and compiling individual performance reports.
It is also responsible for selecting the most talented players to participate in professional or semi-professional football tryouts.
The academy also works with a multidisciplinary team of professionals who conduct different seminars designed to improve other key aspects of elite football, such as nutrition, sports psychology, and injury prevention.
Academic Training
The West Ham United high-performance academy is highly committed to the academic training of players, and offers different options to suit the needs of international students. Below are some of the academic options available:
- IBCM International Foundation Diploma: designed for international students who wish to access a degree course.
- AS / A Level Programmes: designed for students over 16 years of age who wish to prepare for university.
- BTEC International Courses: offering sports or business-related curricula.
- English Courses: IELTS, SAT, & TOEFL exam preparation.
- Higher National Diploma (HND): OFQUAL-recognised qualification equivalent to the first two years of a bachelor’s degree.

Training Facilities
Some of the technical sessions are held at the West Ham United Foundation’s official training facilities, located in Beckton, East London.
These facilities feature a state-of-the-art 3G artificial grass pitch, showers, changing rooms, conference rooms, and classrooms.
The programme’s other two training facilities are in East London and Essex:
- The UEL SPORTSDOCK, a large fitness centre that features natural and artificial grass football pitches, a sports therapy clinic, and conference rooms. Located just 5 minutes from the student dormitories.
- The LONDON MARATHON COMMUNITY TRACK, featuring football pitches, a running track, and a fitness centre, among other facilities.

Accommodation
Students stay at the UEL Docklands university dormitories, located on the banks of the River Thames, just 5 minutes from London City Airport (LCY).
This is a modern and comfortable venue with round-the-clock supervision.

Students have access to a safe, high-speed Wi-Fi, housekeeping, and laundry service.
The academy provides a private transport service to take students to the training sessions held outside the university campus.
